"a needed accessory"

If you've tried to enter a strong password with the virtual keyboard (takes three screens), you will appreciate this. The only annoyance, is that you have to remove your iPad from it's case before it will connect.

"Marginal"

The keyboard operates as advertised, but will NOT work with the iPad if the Apple Protective Cover is in place. I would recommend the use of the bluetooth keyboard.

"I love it." 2010-08-08

It seems that one's experience of this product is all about one's expectations. If you want to leave your case on (regardless of it's design) while you charge or edit docs you may be disappointed. If you want to use it on your lap or in bed or the shower you may be disappointed. If you want the landscape orientation you will definitely be disappointed.

On the other hand if you want a relatively inexpensive, beautiful, rock-solid base on desk, counter, table top you will not be disappointed. The Ipad fits very snugly into the heavy, solid base and stays put nicely against a high plastic, somewhat sculptural support angle. My guess is that a device with wiggle room for cases would wiggle a bit when used without a case. So I prefer to uncase it and have it fit snugly.

It would be nice to have landscape but short of having two connectors on the device itself I don't see how this is possible. I suppose there is the alternative of a cable, stand, and bluetooth keyboard but that is too complicated for me. If you have to have landscape though.........

I hadn't noticed that the Mac keys are not fully updated for the Pad so that needs fixing but I do like the audio out. A USB or Firewire port for future enhancements would be nice but there will always be those among us who desire a whole Ipad computer with HDD and printer functionality.
I hope this was helpful.

"You should buy a separate dock and keyboard"
 2010-07-25

By H. Lau (Lansing, MI)
I know a separate dock and keyboard is more expensive (69 + 29) from apple, at least you don't need to dock your ipad on the dock for the keyboard to function, you can even use it in landscape mode!! Isn't that nice? The best part it you can use the wireless keyboard with any other devices, not just limited to iPad.

"If You Use Apple's Cover, This isn't an Option"
 2010-07-20
By Mark McElroy (Jackson, MS United States)
Apple knows design, so it's disappointing that this dock -- which I purchased as soon as it was available -- does not fit the iPad if the iPad is in Apple's own custom-designed cover.

Because Apple's iPad cover is snug by design, pushing and pulling the iPad in and out of it is no simple matter ... so *having* to do so in order to use this dock ruins the customer experience.

Apple's dock should work with Apple's iPad in Apple's cover -- period. But it doesn't ... so, unless you are dedicated to using a "naked" iPad, don't order this dock.
