If you do a search for videos of the ipad to vga out and cydia's free app called TvOutTuner, you will see that if you jailbreak your iphone or ipad, you will get access to put anything and everything onto the screen. This adapter works flawlessly if you have a jailbroken ipad or iphone and have that app installed.
Try it out if you're tired of Apple's control over the product that you purchased.

I should have read the reviews before purchasing this item. I hooked it up to my iPad and an external LCD monitor and nothing happened. Oh yeah, that's the point. It doesn't do anything unless an individual program ports to it. I'm not sure what it is but calling it an iPad to VGA connector is just plain wrong. $30 down the toilet.

I am an academic who is interested on taking the ipad to lectures and presentations. This little connector is very useful. The laser feature built in Keynote is fantastic. It does what I need, get the ipad connected to a projector to show my slides without the weight of my bulky laptop. It also shows movies and youtube videos. Perfect for my needs!
